24 HOURS, ONE LONG NIGHT: LE BARON TAKES NICE
From a Mediterranean swim to dancing beneath the stars
In Nice, the Baron World Tour turned a full day into one continuous scene: rosé and swims at Hôtel Amour Plage, Sébastien Tellier rehearsing beside the sea, dinner at sunset, a concert under the stars and an aftershow where Parisian nightlife found a new home on the Riviera.

By the time the party began, we had already been swimming in the Mediterranean, drinking rosé and listening to Sébastien Tellier rehearse a few metres away. That was the particular genius of our 24-hour Baron World Tour experience in Nice: the night did not arrive all at once. It gathered slowly, beginning on the beach and carrying us from lunch to sunset, from concert to aftershow, from Hôtel Amour Plage to Hôtel Amour Nice and back again.
We arrived in the morning at Hôtel Amour Plage, on the Promenade des Anglais, with the Mediterranean spread before us and the late-August light giving the Côte d’Azur its particular, almost cinematic clarity.
We found André Saraiva among friends and familiar faces, settled beside the sea, ordered rosé and let lunch stretch between conversation and swims.
Then the soundtrack emerged.
From a stage only metres away, Sébastien Tellier was rehearsing for that evening’s concert. His melodies travelled across the beach as we moved between the water and our table, glasses of rosé waiting in the sun. It felt less like soundcheck than an accidental private performance — a glimpse behind the curtain before the night had properly begun.
THE HÔTEL AMOUR STATE OF MIND
Later, we left the beach, checked into Hôtel Amour Nice and began preparing for the evening.
The hotel is not merely a setting but part of the experience. Its character comes from art, photography, vintage furniture and objects that seem to have accumulated through instinct rather than design. It feels inhabited, slightly unruly and entirely at ease with itself.
There are echoes of La Colombe d’Or, touches of Jean Cocteau and something of the creative glamour — with a trace of controlled decadence — associated with Los Angeles’s Château Marmont. Yet Hôtel Amour remains unmistakably its own place: more collage than concept, more atmosphere than statement.
That sensibility has much to do with André Saraiva. Artist, hotelier and one of the figures behind the original Le Baron in Paris, André has always understood that memorable nightlife depends less on spectacle or exclusivity than on the chemistry between people — and on leaving enough room for the unexpected.
Hôtel Amour follows that same instinct. Its appeal lies in the feeling that something might happen, without anyone needing to announce it.
DINNER BEFORE SUNSET
Freshly changed, we returned to Hôtel Amour Plage for dinner.
Facing the Mediterranean, we watched Nice pass gradually from afternoon into evening. Friends from Paris began to arrive. Musicians moved between the tables. People who had been swimming only hours earlier reappeared in evening clothes, carrying the relaxed intimacy of the beach into the night.
The sky shifted from pink to gold, then into a deep Mediterranean blue. Around us, the beach’s languid rhythm sharpened into anticipation.
Then the night began.
SÉBASTIEN UNDER THE STARS
At around nine, Sébastien Tellier took the stage.
The setting was intimate: no arena, no elaborate production, only the sea, the open sky and Tellier performing a few metres away.
His music has always resisted easy definition, drawing electronic music, chanson, pop, sensuality, romanticism, irony and sophistication into a world that is immediately recognizable yet difficult to categorize. By the Mediterranean, that world seemed to open outward.
Songs we had heard on records, at parties, in fashion shows and across countless nights became the soundtrack to an August evening in Nice. Above us, the stars. Behind us, the sea. Before us, one of France’s most distinctive musicians.
The setting and the music became inseparable.
FRIENDS OF LE BARON
As the concert gave way to the Baron World Tour aftershow, the evening moved closer to the mythology of the original Le Baron.
We spent time with Lionel Bensemoun, whose history is closely tied to Le Baron and to the particular culture of Parisian nightlife he helped shape with André.
Later, we caught up with Marlon Magnée. After fifteen years travelling the world with La Femme, the band he co-founded, he is beginning a new chapter with his first solo album, Dark Star. We spoke about the record, his solo career and his upcoming trip to New York, where he was due to perform.
After so many years associated with La Femme’s musical and visual universe, Marlon is now defining one entirely his own. Seeing him perform later gave the conversation a second dimension: the new direction was no longer something he described, but something already taking shape in front of us.
The evening’s lineup — Sébastien Tellier, Marlon Magnée, LeAm, TOBHI™ and Eddie Megraoui — carried the eclecticism associated with Le Baron without ever feeling assembled for effect. Just before his set, we also managed a quick hello with LeAm, who soon disappeared behind the decks.
WHEN PARIS MOVES TO NICE
That was when Le Baron’s spirit fully took hold of the beach.
For those who knew Le Baron Paris, music was central to its mythology. A night could move without warning between decades and genres, from an unexpected classic to a record no one had heard before. There was sophistication, but never predictability; taste, but never a fixed formula.
On the Promenade des Anglais, that freedom returned.
The Mediterranean replaced the streets of Paris, and the night sky replaced the ceiling. Familiar songs collided with unexpected ones. Friends appeared, vanished into the crowd and resurfaced minutes later. We danced.
The boundaries between artists and guests, hotel and beach, afternoon and night, dinner and party had almost disappeared. Everything seemed to flow into everything else.
That has always been Le Baron’s particular talent: not simply organizing a party, but creating the conditions for an atmosphere to emerge.
THE MORNING AFTER
The following morning began late, as it should at Hôtel Amour.
Over a long breakfast in the hotel restaurant, we pieced together the previous day and night. In daylight, the hotel revealed itself differently: the vintage furniture, photographs, art and curious objects had acquired the afterimage of the night before.
What we had experienced was not simply a concert or a party, but a full day and night inside the world of Le Baron: rosé and lunch by the sea, Tellier rehearsing nearby, André and friends, checking into Hôtel Amour, dinner at sunset, Tellier beneath the stars, conversations with Lionel and Marlon, Marlon’s performance, a quick hello with LeAm, and dancing beside the Mediterranean to the sounds and spirit that made Le Baron one of Paris nightlife’s most singular names.
By breakfast, it already felt slightly dreamlike.
Perhaps that is what the best summer experiences should be: not entirely planned, not entirely explainable and impossible to reproduce in quite the same way.
For that day and night in Nice, Le Baron was not a place. It was a state of mind.
