Oscar Carvallo: from couture to painting

After a successful 25-year career in Couture, Oscar Carvallo has turned to painting with an equally consuming passion. Among his most significant exhibitions are:

Art Basel: Salon Pinta in Miami in 2025

Hybrid Portraits in New York at Salomon Gallery in 2025

The Hydra Eye in Greece in 2024

Aeternitas at Galerie Artismagna in Paris in 2023

Today, the works brought to the Botanique de l’âme guides us through a universe suspended in between reality and fantasy, exploring the inner landscapes of the self. Silent figures, absent and penetrating gazes, motionless bodies, every character existing in an invisible world.

The Technique Carvallo

All the portraits on display were painted on wood and created

using pigments mixed with beeswax, applied in multiple layers

using the technique known as “encaustic painting,” finished

with a rabbit-skin glue varnish. These layered applications of

color result in refined, deep, and delicate tones, giving the image both texture and intensity. Carvallo revives an ancient technique dating back to the first century.

Botanique de l’âme

Offers a poetic odyssey of the unconscious, where every detail becomes a sign, each figure a world to explore.

As Carl Jung suggests, “Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes”; an invitation to enter these buried territories where imagination unfolds. Organic and hybrid elements, plants with piercing eyes, sea creatures emerging within intimate spaces, become symbols of an inner life in transformation. Here, botany extends beyond flora to embrace all forms of life, from visible roots to the depths of the subconscious.

Between land and sea, surface and abyss, an inner ecosystem

unfolds. Plants evoke growth and rootedness, while marine

presences embody the buried realms of the mind, where

dreams, emotions, and mysteries take shape.

Between softness and strangeness, these images emerge as oneiric fragments, altered memories, and visions that escape all logic. The viewer is invited to cross thresholds, to enter spaces where the visible and the invisible merge.
