One day at Fondation CAB, Saint Paul de Vence, France

Saint Paul de Vence is a very special medieval village located on the French Riviera and has always been one of my favorite spots to visit not only because of it’s exhuberant landscape but also because of it’s rich cultural heritage. During the 20th century it became an artistic heaven where artists , writers and intellectuals like Matisse , Chagall or Picasso went to get inspired and produce magnificent works.

Such a magical town has been the perfect spot for Fondation CAB to establish in a stunning 50’s building renovated by french architect Charles Zana which houses several exhibition spaces, the bookshop, the Sol restaurant and 3 guest rooms divinely decorated with original furniture by post war masters like Charlotte Perriand , Jean Prouvé or Le Corbusier and fantastic original artworks overlooking the Cap d’Antibes .To have the ultimate design living experience you can also sleep in Jean Prouvé’s cabanon built the visionary constructor of the 20th century.

This season you can also enjoy the CAB current exhibition “Jean Prouvé inventor of Houses”in association with Laffanour Galerie Downtown presenting a selection of works illustrating the genius of the influential designer.

Prouvés houses are distinguished by their visible structures, large glass openings and ingenious materials that maximize lighting and ventilation considered heritage works preserved by cultural institutions such as CAB and are still relevant and architectural ideal in the face of contemporary challenges of sustainability and housing.

The exhibition also highlights Prouvé’s unique furniture designs like the Cité bed produced until 1953 or the Compass table which represents one of the last structural systems developed for furniture by the designer. The exhibition highlights Jean Prouvé’s contribution to the history of design and architecture.

“By focusing on both historic artists and a younger generation, Fondation CAB is meant to be a platform for exchange, encounters and discoveries around minimal art, conceptual art and design. Fondation CAB is open to one and all.” comments Hubert Bonnet, Founder.

Discovering and staying at Fondation CAB in Saint Paul de Vence has been a privilege for me and I will definitely become a regular visitor!
