In a city where philanthropy and cultural influence often converge, the My Hero Gala emerged as a powerful expression of solidarity, celebrating three decades of humanitarian commitment by AID FOR AIDS and AID FOR LIFE.
“The true heroes of our time are those who transform compassion into action, privilege into purpose, and solidarity into lasting hope.”
Beneath the magnificent blue whale suspended in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life at New York’s iconic American Museum of Natural History, the 2026 My Hero Gala marked an exceptional milestone: thirty years devoted to preserving human dignity, expanding access to healthcare, and transforming the lives of vulnerable communities across international borders.
Under the evocative theme “Dignity Across Borders,” the gala brought together the worlds of philanthropy, diplomacy, entertainment, business and humanitarian advocacy around a singular conviction: compassion transcends geography, nationality and circumstance.
More than a distinguished social occasion, the gathering represented the enduring power of collective responsibility, reminding its international community that true influence is measured not simply by achievement, but by the lives one has the capacity to transform.
Four Extraordinary Venezuelans, Four Stories of Impact:
At the heart of the anniversary celebration was a tribute to four distinguished Venezuelans whose individual journeys embody the spirit of leadership, generosity and service.
Philanthropist María Eugenia Maury, former Chair of the AID FOR AIDS Board, was honored for her longstanding dedication to advancing the organization's humanitarian mission, demonstrating how generosity, when accompanied by vision and perseverance, can generate lasting change.
Internationally acclaimed actor and humanitarian advocate Edgar Ramírez was recognized for his commitment to using the international visibility of his artistic career to amplify humanitarian causes. Beyond the cinematic world, his voice has become a meaningful instrument for raising awareness and encouraging empathy.
Former United States Ambassador to Croatia Nathalie Rayes represented another dimension of leadership. As the first Venezuelan-American to serve as a U.S. ambassador, her trajectory in diplomacy and public service reflects the transformative possibilities of cultural identity and international engagement.
Completing this remarkable group was Mary Ann Torres, the Venezuelan human-rights lawyer and internationally respected HIV/AIDS advocate, whose work has consistently championed equitable access to healthcare and the fundamental rights of communities affected by HIV.
Together, these four honorees illustrated a compelling portrait of Venezuelan excellence on the international stage, united not by profession, but by an unwavering commitment to humanity.
The Art of Giving: A Legacy Beyond Borders
Co-chaired by Adriana Cisneros, CEO and Vice Chairman of Grupo Cisneros, and Roman Torres Boscan, Portfolio Director of U.S. Clean Energy at The Schmidt Family Foundation, the evening placed humanitarian responsibility at the center of contemporary philanthropy.
Founded in 1996 by Jesús Aguais, AID FOR AIDS began with an innovative and profoundly necessary initiative: recovering unused, unexpired HIV medications and redistributing them to patients in countries where access to treatment was limited or nonexistent.
Three decades later, its achievements tell an extraordinary story. The organization reports having redistributed more than $220 million in lifesaving medicines, benefiting over 55,000 people in 75 countries, while its prevention and educational initiatives have reached more than two million young people.
Venezuela: A Commitment That Transcends Distance
Particularly meaningful was the gala's connection to Venezuela, a country whose humanitarian challenges have inspired remarkable expressions of solidarity among its international diaspora.
Following the earthquakes that affected Venezuela during the summer of 2026, AID FOR LIFE helped coordinate a significant relief initiative, mobilizing humanitarian organizations, volunteers, Venezuelan businesses and community leaders throughout New York.
More than fifty collection points were established to gather medical supplies, food, water and other essential resources.
A Celebration of the Human Spirit:
In an era frequently defined by uncertainty and division, the My Hero Gala offered a different narrative, one shaped by empathy, resilience and the belief that meaningful progress begins with a shared sense of responsibility.
The elegance of its New York setting provided a symbolic backdrop to a mission of far greater significance. Here, philanthropy was not merely an expression of generosity, but a recognition of the profound connection between individual action and collective well-being.
Special thank to Jesus Aguais for a magnificent work and support for those who need it the most, for your solidarity and deep sense of helping others, thank you for a meaningful night that will be remembered. Thank you for thirty years of meaningful work.
