Calabria Food Festival 2026

There’s a story that Italy didn’t begin in Rome.

It began in Calabria.

Long before Italy became a country, ancient Greek settlers referred to this southern stretch of coastline as Italia. The name stayed. The rest is history.

Most travelers know Tuscany. Few know Calabria.

And that's precisely why it remains one of the most interesting places in the Mediterranean today.

From June 16–23, a small group of travelers will experience Calabria through a week-long celebration of food, wine, culture, and local traditions during the Calabria Food Fest — a curated journey through vineyards, medieval villages, archaeological sites, family kitchens, and coastal landscapes that still feel largely untouched by mass tourism.

What caught our attention wasn't the itinerary.

It was the approach.

Instead of rushing between landmarks, the experience focuses on something increasingly rare: access.

Private winery visits. Conversations with local producers. Cooking alongside celebrated chefs and legendary nonnas. Evenings spent wandering village streets rather than checking attractions off a list.

The journey concludes inside the medieval Castle of Squillace, where regional cuisine, live performances, and a gala dinner transform centuries of history into something remarkably contemporary.

In an era where many destinations are becoming more alike, Calabria still feels deeply connected to its roots.

A reminder that sometimes the most memorable places are the ones people haven't discovered yet.
